The Eyes Have It

I have limited vision, a condition which informs my photography.  When I was a small child I lost the vision in my right eye due to an accident.  Since that time I have been acutely conscious of the value that vision has to all of us.  We take for granted the sense of seeing and cannot imagine the misfortune of losing it.  In addition to having only one eye, I am seriously nearsighted and have a cataract in my "good" eye.  A few years ago I suffered a detached retina in a softball game and while surgery corrected the problem, my vision was never as good as it was before the incident.

The camera also has one eye and like our own eyes it frames in a field of view whatever we point it at.  My current camera a Canon EOS-1 V has auto focusing which has been a great help to me since the onset of the cataract.  I like to photograph what I like to look at.  This seeming truism  actually has a depth of meaning.  I have always admired physical strength and beauty and delight in looking at a well formed body.  I am not athletic and greatly appreciate the hard work and dedication as well as the innate genetic potential which comprises the symmetric muscular human form.  Human are not static but change their aspects continuously and I wish to capture in a photograph some of the beauty that the human for is capable of.

I have sought out quotations that have somehow to do with vision or the eye.  I have placed one on each page to make the reader think about how important vision is.  So have fun and enjoy looking at my photographs but protect your vision so you can enjoy the whole world.
