The eye of Horus is an Egyptian symbol associated with the son of the gods Isis and Osiris. Horus, the hawk god lost his eye in a battle with Seth who had murdered his father Osiris but the god of wisdom, Thoth, healed the eye and eventually Horus defeated Seth and drove him into the Sahara. The hawk is known to have excellent eyesight and the amulet with this symbol was believed to promote healing. This symbol along with the Ankh is widely known throughout the world.
Since all my life I have had a lot of trouble with my eyesight, I have always been fascinated by the image of the eye. I lost vision in my right eye due to a childhood accident, I am very nearsighted, I detached a retina recently, and I have cataract as well as numerous floaters.
The camera used in photography is a direct extension of the eye and since like Horus I have only one eye I value vision very much. I suggest everyone use their gift of sight to the utmost, preferably by looking at photographs, especially mine. But also I enjoin everyone to look at and really see our world which is truly wonderful to behold.
