Competition is in the blood of human beings and anywhere there are differences among people they will form a basis for competition. Bodybuilding competitions are intensely personal because the athletes are using themselves as their aesthetic vehicle and while there is no objective standard of masculine perfection there is generally agreement among the spectators at a show over who is the best. Competition measures only outward appearance not inner worth, yet there is something noble about the human drive for perfection in form. To compete effectively the man must have an intense desire to win and the fortitude to carry it through. It is psychologically risky to remove most of your clothes and present yourself in public for others to judge your appearance. It requires supreme confidence and skill at presentation as well as physical strength and endurance. It is a myth that bodybuilders are not strong.... they are strong of body and strong of will. These photos were taken either at a contest or shortly pre or post competition and they display the formal poses required by the competition rules. |
